Setting Achievable Goals

“If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.”

We all have the opportunity to define our values and create meaningful goals. Games are fun because they have clear goals. Every small task in a game is meaningful because it connects to goals you care about.

We all want to feel connected to a sense of purpose. To do this, you have to align your day-to-day actions with that purpose. That’s why on the character page at the very front of the Journal there’s a section for choosing your first goal. On this page, you’ll write something achievable over the next few days.

On the Daily Pages of the journal, there’s a space to write down three smaller goals, these should be steps along the path to completing that weekly goal. The shields next to the goals are called Focus Blocks which we’ll get into during Step 3.

Why did we only leave space for three?

Because leveling up isn’t about trying to do everything all at once. It is a step-by-step process where each new success gives you the skills to achieve something greater in the future. Imagine playing a game that forced you to take on a Level 50 boss at Level 1—it’s not going to go well. On the other hand, each time you gain experience and level up, that boss becomes easier to defeat. Your big goals are achievable, but only if you take things one step at a time and develop the skills you need to win.

Living a leveled-up life is about doing the most important and most impactful things first, gaining experience, and taking on ever-larger challenges. Your to-do list has the potential to be never-ending. This journal is designed to stop the trivial and mundane from interfering with doing the things that matter.

Life is set up for distraction. Whether it’s news, emails, or cat videos, you have a lot of things vying for your attention. Each distraction, no matter how small, disrupts your flow and makes it harder for you to get back to what matters. Our phones and digital to-do lists are just another opportunity to lose focus.

The Level-Up Habit Journal is designed to remove distractions and keep your Most Important Tasks in front of you. In fact, the reason this journal is that physically writing stuff down is an awesome anti-distraction move.

When you reach your first Level Up Check-In there will be space for three weekly goals, and some experience to gain with the Goal Guardian Badge. You’ll have the opportunity to write new goals every time you hit a check-in so you can refine them based on what you learn about yourself.
